Playing in the FA Women’s National League, we are one of London’s highest ranked independent women’s football clubs.
Committed to the ensuring equality of access to football regardless of background or income, our goal is to show women’s clubs don’t need to be someone else’s “women’s team” to compete.
We’re delighted to announce that season tickets for our first season at our new home, Oakside Stadium in Barkingside, are now available. To mark our move to the area, this year’s season card will commemorate the Ford Machinists Strike of 1968. The strike was a landmark moment for women’s rights in the UK, and would ultimately lead to the passing of legislation to ensure women had the right to equal pay for equal work through the Equal Pay Act 1970.
Season ticket holders this year can claim a free copy of Carrie Dunn’s excellent history of women’s football, Suitable for Females (some exceptions apply).
London Seaward fully support the findings and recommendations in Raising the Bar, Karen Carney’s review of women’s football, but we would like to see more.
To truly prosper, women’s football needs to acknowledge the role of independent and lesser affiliated clubs to the vibrancy and success of the game, as well as address the structural issues around access to the sport for girls and young women across the country.
The issue of ‘big name’ men’s clubs using their financial power to access the league – and control its direction – needs also to be acknowledged and addressed.
